logo gamescom 2010 - five days full of fun, games, shows, news, loot and entertainment, which took place from 18. to 22. August 2010 in Cologne (Köln), Germany. Once again we, hexe and T.T.H, a gaming geeks couple, had been right in the middle of it taking pictures.
photo Cologne - You know you are in the town with the worlds biggest computer games convention when the beer mats of all restaurants don't feature advertisements for the local brewery but for Pac-Man and Enslaved.

photo Guild Wars 2 - Back side of NCsoft's the booth.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Help sheet next to each keyboard of the demo stations.
photo Guild Wars 2 - One of the many steps during the character creation process.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Name input during the character creation process.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Right at the start.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Dialog we have seen mostly consisted of short multiple-choice selections.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Low level Human elementalist with enabled fire attunement and fire magic skills while holding a two-handed staff.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Aura of Restoration: as long as you hold down the mouse button your energy will be reduced and your health will be restored.
photo Guild Wars 2 - High level Charr elementalist with enabled fire attunement and fire magic skills while holding a dagger.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Targeting of area-of-effect spells is done with a mouse-moveable preview of the affected area.
photo Guild Wars 2 - 'The Shatterer', a huge dragon during a high level world event.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Hexes on the dragon.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Fire bamm.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Fire thingies.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Whole graphical user interface with opened inventory window.
photo Guild Wars 2 - ROFSE: roling on floor spending energy
photo Guild Wars 2 - Energy potions: Personally I am very, very sceptical about those as this might turn combat into a "ressource war" as seen in so many "yet another MMO"s. Later on I got the change to talk with Izzy about the reasons for and against potions which did ease my fears a bit. Izzy's personal opinion is "I hate potions and want to bring them down with fire" but so far they haven't found a better replacement for a long-term resource yet and until that happens they (including Izzy) will stick to them and try to convince people that energy potions will improve and not worsen gameplay.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Vendor window and hero window.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Hero window of a Human elementalist. Note the "classic" attributes as seen in so many "yet another MMO"s. Personally I did like Guild Wars 1 because it did so many things different than "yet another MMO".
photo Guild Wars 2 - Hero window of a Human elementalist. Currently the attributes they can only be increased with the "+" button but not be lowered again. This might change of course but personally I think it would totally suck if you can "miss-spec" your character like in so many "yet another MMO"s.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Hero personality: charisma, dignity, ferocity.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Dye menu: most equipment pieces seem to have three different dye-able areas for which you can choose a dye color from the right. In the demo all dyes had been available but we've been told that from the start you will only have the "Starter Colors" set and have to unlock other dye sets later in the game.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Necromancer skill "Feast of Corruption". FoC spike FTW!
photo Guild Wars 2 - Necromancer skill "Death Shroud".
photo Guild Wars 2 - Elementalist skill "Meteor Shower".
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger skill "Barrage".
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger skill "Healing Spring" in the self-heal slot #6. You can select the self-heal skill from a little popu-up window with all self-heal skills.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger skill "Tracking" in the utility slot #7". Actually enemies are not shown on the minimap anymore because they want people to look at the main window and not at the minimap. Nevertheless rangers have skills to make them appear on the minimap again.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger skill "Frost Trap" in the utility slot #8. You can select the utility skills from a little popu-up window with all utility skills.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger skill "Feral Signet" in the utility slot #9.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger elite skill "Rampage As One" in the elite slot #10.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Pet management window and pet naming window. You can have three pets available and one of those with you.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Pets have a pool of skills from which you can choose four the pet will use.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Ranger specific icons from left to right: pet management, pet commands (attack my target come back, guard?) and pet behavior pop-up menu (fight, guard, avoid commbat).
photo Guild Wars 2 - Traits: each skill line has a pool of traits from which you can choose three to be active.

photo Guild Wars 2 - Hero window with equipped items.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Maximum inventory.
photo Guild Wars 2 - "Mark" which is like an insignia in Guild Wars 1 and can be applied to armor.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Quest log.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Reward dialog after completing a low level quest with fix reward (axe, 50 karma, 50 copper) and one selectable reward (sword, shortbow, longbow).
photo Guild Wars 2 - Shortbow and longbow. Items seem to have a lot of boni boosting attributes which in my opinion is so "yet another MMO" style. And there even are items sets... sigh.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Two-handed staff and dagger which are both equippable by elementalists.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Vendor window with consumables. Did I mention that I consider consumables so "yet another MMO" style and hate them for turning a game into a "resource war"?! At the very beginning Guild Wars 1 didn't have any consumable items and I did absolutely love that fact.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Warhorn and longbow.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Achievement groups. A lot of them.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Achievement groups. More of them.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Explorer achievements.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Hero achievements.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Slayer achievements. With multiple tiers. Turning into a grindfest?!
photo Guild Wars 2 - Weapon Master achievements.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Comparing achievements. People will love that.
photo Guild Wars 2 - Minimap. The skull symbol represents fallen allies and this particular one was a falled bear whom I did help up soon afterwards.

photo Guild Wars 2 - hexe, James and Annie who did answer a looooot of our questions, thank you very much!
photo Guild Wars 2 - Izzy, T.T.H, James, hexe and Princess.
photo Guild Wars 2 - On Thursday evening at the NCsoft party James, our little blue monster, did fetch the attention of Jeff Grubb which resulted in him sitting at our table for most of the evening and talking with us and others about the gamescom, computer games, Guild Wars, roleplaying games, schnitzel, beer, Seattle and bridge trolls.

photo Torchlight 2 - And pets!
photo Torchlight 2 - And outdoor areas!

photo Mythos Online - Kinda creepy that the booths of Mythos Online and Torchlight 2 had been right next to each other.
photo Mythos Online - Plenty sidebars.
photo Tera - Yet another MMO.
photo Tera - Women get more of boob.
photo Tera - Men get more of everything.
photo Tera - There must be some rationale behind shaking the butt like a belly dancer while shooting arrows at treants...
photo Rift - Yet another MMO.
photo Battle of the Immortals and Jade Dynasty - Yet two another MMOs. The later one featuring an integrated grinding bot which will kill monster for you while you are away from keyboard. Rationale: Can't defeat goldsellers? Just underprice them!

photo The Witcher 2 - Storyline of the whole game.
photo ??? - Can't remember the name of the game but the gameplay is about bodycounts. Huge bodycounts.
photo Hunted: The Demon's Forge - Very interesting two-player cooperative game. Looks good and plays nice. Got a very kind introduction by one of the booth guys. Were not allowed to take pictures of the game. Only of the smoking skull they had. Obviously our own monster wasn't scared.
photo R.U.S.E. - Real-time strategy playable on touchscreens. hexe loved it. Literally had to drag her away from the demo stations somewhen.
photo Age of Empires Online
